The Concept:
To provide up to twenty thousand US woman employment through virtual employment.

What is virtual employment?
Virtual employment is the ability to work anywhere via Internet technologies.

Why virtual employment?
With the right training any woman can become self-sufficient and feel a renewed purpose in her life because she is able to help financially support herself and her family.
As President Obama has initiated the Stimulus Package, virtual assisting will provide employment, which will in turn stimulate the economy by increased spending.

The high number of single parent households, virtual assistance will allow women to stay home with their children; giving the children the benefit more parental guidance and reducing the number of latchkey kids. This in turn will lead to a lower crime rate because there will be more parental supervision and higher family values.

Mental health has been on the rise; much of this has to do with the economic turmoil. High unemployment can cause numerous health issues; virtual employment will boost morale and decrease mental health problems.

GVAN will be particularly advantageous for America’s poor. President Obama’s promise to help American’s rise out of poverty can become a reality with the right technology and training. GVAN will offer individuals the technology and training to set up their own virtual business and gain employment.

According to the WhiteHouse.gov website:

“Help Americans Grab a Hold of and Climb the Job Ladder: Obama and Biden will invest $1 billion over five years in transitional jobs and career pathway programs that implement proven methods of helping low-income Americans succeed in the workforce” (2009).

President Obama also promises to improve technologies for all American’s; GVAN will implement cutting-edge technology to connect job seeking American’s to employment opportunities.

Under the GVAN umbrella, women will be given the opportunity to own their own businesses; an opportunity supported by the Obama Administration.

Statistics

Unemployment and economic hardship can cause numerous health issues. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration states: “Economic turmoil (e.g., increased unemployment, foreclosures, loss of investments and other financial distress) can result in a whole host of negative health effects - both physical and mental. It can be particularly devastating to your emotional and mental well-being”.
Some of the most common ailments associated with economic hardship are as follows (SAMHSA, 2009):
* Depression
* Anxiety
* Compulsive Behaviors (over-eating, excessive gambling, spending, etc.)
* Substance Abuse

Unemployment

Since December 2008, America has seen a drastic decline in employment. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, " In March, the number of unemployed persons increased by 694,000 to 13.2 million, and the unemployment rate rose to 8.5 percent. Over the past 12 months, the number of unemployed persons has grown by about 5.3 million, and the unemployment rate has risen by 3.4 percentage points. Half of the increase in both the number of unemployed and the unemployment rate occurred in the last 4 months.

Long term employment (over 27 weeks) has increased as well; by 1.9 million since the recession began in December 2007 (Employment Situation Summary, 2009).

For a sobering look at America's economy, read Professor James Petras' "World Depression: Regional Wars and the Decline of the US Empire". "World Depression: Regional Wars and the Decline of the US Empire".

Disability

GVAN has the potential to increase employment rates for people with disabilities. Many Americans with disabilities are forced to stay home due to disability restrictions. With the use of the internet, training, and job creation, GVAN can provide disabled Americans an opportunity to better themselves through steady employment from home.

Currently, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Division of Labor Force Statistics, "in March 2009, the unemployment rate of persons with a disability was 13.1 percent, compared with 8.9 percent for persons with no disability, not seasonally adjusted. The employment-population ratio for persons with a disability was 19.8 percent, compared with 64.6 percent for persons with no disability".
The number of disabled, unemployed women jumped from 2,470 in February 2009 to 2,535 in March of 2009. The number of unemployed disabled persons is expected to increase over the next several months. GVAN can reverse these numbers through training and employment services.

Statistics reinforce the need for virtual employment. Women and the disabled will benefit the greatest through GVAN. The rise in employment, 15 to 20 thousand jobs to start, will help the country rise out of recession and into success. Lives will be better, spending will be greater and the overall success rate of Americans less fortunate will drastically increase.

Technology

GVAN will be the cornerstone of technology.Spacenet has the potential and the desire to connect virtual assistants across the country with employers across the globe. Through satellite connection, virtual assistants will connect to the internet to communicate with employers and submit projects via the net.
